[G2:4577 class=right exactsize=420]Animated by a team of experienced religious and lay youth leaders, we at SPYS seek to develop and implement a programme of holistic formation for young people. The whole thing started in September 1995 by developing programmes with a particular target group in a local area, but the constantly increasing demand for the programmes highlighted the need for a national dimension to this service. At the end of 1997, SPYS went online. In January 2009, SPYS became a recognized Voluntary Organization under the 2007 Voluntary Organizations Act of Malta, with registration number VO/0078.
With the two-fold aim of person building and community building, the Salesian Pastoral Youth Service accompanies young people towards the discovery of authentic life values. Through an optimistic view of life in the light of the Gospel, it seeks to develop and implement a programme of holistic Christian formation which enables the young to grow in friendship with the Lord and peace with the self and encourages them to reach out in a ministry to others.
Don Bosco & the Salesians
Don Bosco lived in the north of Italy and spent his whole life working with the young. He started alone but gradually others joined him in his enterprise. Today over a hundred years later, the Salesians he founded continue his work throughout the world bringing a spirit of joy built on the love of God to today's young people. In his lifetime, Don Bosco took every opportunity and used every possible means to help the young, especially the poorest among them. In a family atmosphere, he helped them discover a joyful and meaningful life, helping them experience the Gospel message through recreation, prayer, work, joy, and above all LOVE.
