SPYS – REBOOT

SPYS focuses on person building and community building by accompanying young people towards the discovery of authentic life values. We seek to develop and implement a programme of holistic Christian formation which enables the young to grow in friendship with the Lord and peace with the self and encourages them to reach out in a ministry to others.

Each year SPYS opens its doors to interested volunteers to participate in its projects. Among these there is the YES Project that takes place every year in collaboration with the Salesian Senglea community. There is also the SPYS.int project that creates various preparation sessions that will enable young
people to volunteer in Malta, Africa, Europe, India and South America.
Due to covid-19 pandemic, it was very difficult to maintain our activities especially our outreach work with young people to become volunteers. Although the core group remained active, our core activities especially those related to projects outside Malta, had to be suspended to follow the restrictions resulting from the COVID 19 pandemic.
Through the project REBOOT, SPYS helped to reignite our volunteering activities by offering the young people the opportunity to process the effects of the pandemic on the young people’s outlook on their lives. The sessions invited the young people to explore values by re-engaging in voluntary work with our organisation. Through groupwork, the therapist accompanied the young people to speak about their experience and lead them to move on and re-engage in voluntary activities.

The project was financed through the REBOOT scheme of Agenzija Żgħażagħ.

Newcastle Team building activity

We organised a team building activity for Newcastle College football team from the UK who were in Malta for the Paul Falzon Football Tournament. This consisted of 25 boys and 11 girls of 17-year-old. It consisted of several fun games which required each team to compete against each other. It was of huge success as while they were having fun playing it also gave them the opportunity to learn to work together and trust their team mates in order to win the games.

Coaching and Empowering Young People

The project is aimed towards young people who are youth leaders in various settings by providing coaching and empowerment skills. This includes formation on understanding the self, understanding others, and formation in active citizenship. Furthermore, the project deals with how to deal with addiction, how to relate with persons with addictions, and awareness of professional support available in cases of addiction.

Coaching is a way to effectively empower people to find their own answers and encourage and support them on their path to make live-giving and life-changing choices.

Summer Camp time!

Meet the YES team (Youths Engage in Senglea). Living together for two weeks, this group of energetic young people organise a Summer Camp for children and young people from Senglea. Through crafts, games and activities, young campers are encouraged and supported to grow into honest citizens with sincere life values.

Meet Emma!

Meet Emma! πŸ‘‹ Another young volunteer, with a charming smile 😊 and calm presence πŸ™. Visiting Naivasha in Kenya πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ, Emma gave a helping hand in the kitchen πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ during the day, while she spent meaningful afternoons animating young people with activities πŸ€Έβ€β™‚, crafts 🎨 and dance πŸ’ƒ.
